In Manchester united’s first real attack after ten minutes, Valencia pinged a lovely cross into the mixer and Wayne Rooney crashed home a wonderful header off the bar. Three minutes later City’s match imploded as Vincent Kompany saw a (harsh?) straight red for a tackle on Nani. City’s woes worsened on the half hour when an Evra cross deflected up in air and Danny Welbeck pounced with a sweet shot on the hooked-volley that arrowed into Pantilimon’s far post. United’s dominance was extended in the 39th after Kolarov hacked down Welbeck in the box, and Wayne Rooney converted on the rebound after Pantilimon saved the initial spot kick. (First half highlights) City came roaring back to life minutes after the restart when Aleksandar Kolarov curled a stunning free-kick round the wall and into the near post. An FA Cup classic was on the cards in the 64th minute as, after out-of-retirement Paul Scholes lost the ball to Milner on the right, Sergio Aguero followed up his own shot to make it City 2 – United 3.
