Sunderland lost the ball in their own half after 11 minutes and, after Spurs quickly shifted the ball around, Robbie Keane was on hand to tap in Crouch’s header. Early in the second half Darren Bent had the chance to equalise with a penalty against his former employers but Spurs keeper Gomes made a fine save low down to his left hand side. That proved critical for the Black Cats as Tom Huddlestone rifled in the second soon after.
