Oldham took the lead through a long range golazo, Robbie Simpson pinging one in from all of 30 yards. Their lead lasted less than a minute however, as Liverpool quickly kicked into gear and equalized through a deflected shot, Craig Bellamy claiming the final touch. Steven Gerrard made it two from the spot with an excellently taken penalty, before JohnJo Shelvey made it 3-0 with his first ever Liverpool goal. With the tie wrapped up, Liverpool put some gloss on the scoreline, Andy Carroll smashing a super strike in from outside the box, before Stewart Downing put the icing on the cake with the fifth on the stroke of full-time.
