Fratton Park witnessed controversy on the half hour as Hreidarsson took a blatant dive in the Burnley box, Phil Dowd was conned into awarding Pompey the penalty but justice was served as Aruna Dindane fluffed the spot-kick and the the rebound. Burnley proceeded to create the better chances in the match, but in the 64th minute Dindane played in Hermann Hreidarsson in the inside left channel and the left-back thumped a low shot into the far post. In the final ten minutes Aruna Dindane headed in the South Coasters second to earn Avram Grant his first victory in his new job.
