The Germans started the brighter and took an early lead in the third minute, Schweinsteiger crossed in from a dead ball and Tomas Muller headed home with the Argentina defence all at sea. With just over 20 minutes to go resolute Germany doubled their lead, Podolski squaring for Miroslav Klose to tap into an empty net. Seven minutes later a beaten Argentina failed to stop a sensational run from Schweinsteiger and Arne Freidrich tapped in. A sensational team performance was completed in the 89th minute as Miroslav Klose headed home his second and Germany’s fourth from an Ozil cross.
