Nene broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute when he headed home Andrea Cossu’s cross from the centre of the Atalanta penalty box. Three minutes later the duo combined again and this time Nene latched onto a Cossu cross to make it 2-0 to Cagliari. The hosts wrapped up all three points just before halftime when Alessandro Matri converted a penalty.
