After Russia broke down the right hand side just before the hour, Aleksandr Kerzhakov smashed the ball home from 10-yards to leave Italy chasing the game. The Azzurri fell furthe rbehind in the 76th minute when horrific miscommunication allowed the the ball to break to the Russians, and Roman Shirokov buried the gift for 2-0. Right at the death their was still time for Italy’s evening to get even worse, as Roman Shirokov exploited some outrageously lazy defending to nod in his brace.
